Thanks to its rich geological resources, the country has developed a robust production and export system encompassing the extraction, processing, and global distribution of marble, granite, and limestone.
The stone processing sector comprises over 1,200 active enterprises, primarily located in mining and processing centers such as Estremoz, Borba, Sintra, and Penafel. The industry provides tens of thousands of jobs and exports to more than 120 countries, from Europe and the United States to the Middle East and Asia.
Portuguese stone is highly prized for its aesthetic quality, texture uniformity, and durability. It is used not only in luxury construction and architecture, but also in landscape design, interiors, and infrastructure projects.
